<< back to Faculty Ph.D., University of Pennsylvania, 1978Seventeenth- and Eighteenth-Century French Prose Fiction; Italian Literature/Literary Theory and Criticism Carol Lazzaro-Weis joined the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures as Professor of French and Italian in January 2003. Her teaching and research interests include the seventeenth- and eighteenth-century French novel, nineteenth- and twentieth-century Italian literature, contemporary Italian and French women writers, genre, and feminist literary theory. Her research has been supported by grants from the ACLS, NEH, the Fulbright Association and the Bogliasco Foundation. In addition to numerous articles on French and Italian writers she has published the following books: Confused Epiphanies: L’abbe Prevost and the Romance Tradition (Lang:1991) From Margins to Mainstream: Feminism and Fictional Modes in Italian Women’s Writings (1969-1992) (University of Pennsylvania Press, 1993); and La Signorina and Other Stories by Anna Banti (with Martha King) (MLA Texts and Translations, 2001). She is presently completing a critical edition of Voyages dans la Louisiane et le Missouri (1840) by Victor Tixier and a comparative study of autobiography and history in the works of selected contemporary Afro-American, Italian and Francophone women writers. She is the Vice-President of the American Association of Italian Studies and the secretary of the Midwest Canadian Studies Association. Professor Weis is affiliated with Women's and Gender Studies and the Canadian Studies Program. |
