Students may obtain a minor in Italian Area Studies by completing 15 hours of course work as follows:
At least 9 hours of Italian language/literature credit beyond Italian 1200, e.g.:
- Italian 2160 Intermediate Composition and Conversation (3)
- Italian 3150 Advanced Italian Conversation (3)
- Italian 3160 Advanced Italian Composition (3)
- Italian 3420 Introduction to Italian Literature (3)
- Italian 3430 Survey of Italian Literature (3)
An additional 6 hours chosen from the following:
- Italian culture/literature courses taught in English, e.g.:
- Italian 2310 Italian Civilization (3)
- Italian 2850 Italian Cinema (3)
- Italian 3310 20th Century Italian Fiction in Translation (3)
- Italian 3810 The Films of Pier Pasolini (3)
- Italian 3820 The Films of Federico Fellini (3)
- Italian culture/topics emphasis courses offered by other
programs/departments (e.g., History, Art History, Music)
Normally 9 hours must be completed in residence at MU. However, students are permitted to count 6 hours toward the minor from an officially sanctioned semester or year-long foreign study program in Italy. 6 hours toward the minor can also be earned in summer programs abroad, such as the summer intensive language program offered by the University of Bergamo (near Milan) or by the Centro Fiorenza in Florence or on the Island of Elba.
Additionally, coursework must be completed with a grade in the C range or higher in each of the required courses and students must maintain a 2.0 GPA in the minor. |
