Marcel Jaentschke, doctoral candidate in Spanish, was honored with the first prize in the Humanities and Applied Design category at the Graduate Professional Council's Research and Creative Activities Forum!

Marcel's research examines the representations of Central America’s Afro-Amerindian royalism in travel writing and petitions submitted by Miskitu Indians to the British crown throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Rather than an expression of imperial ventriloquism, as argued in earlier studies whose primary focus of inquiry was European and U.S. travel writing, the Miskitu petitions discussed here reveal an intricate case of autoethnographic royalism embedded within a variety of writing modes.

Congratulations on this richly deserved honor, Marcel!
